The Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) has taken an active part in the creation of a children’s TV series entitled “Ruka’s Great Voyages”, which will be broadcast during the children’s time slot of Televisión Nacional de Chile(TVN), starting on Saturday April 7, 2018.
One of the primary objectives of the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) is to bring science and the study of the ocean closer to all kinds of people, especially Chilean students, making them aware of the importance of the sea. This is why, through its Outreach team, IMO carries out a number of activities particularly focusing on the school community. Therefore, IMO decided to organize “Approaching Inclusion”, a training activity seeking to provide monitors with tools that will make them more effective as they help all kinds of children.
Some weeks ago, the journal Biogeosciences published an article entitled Over-calcified forms of the coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi in high-CO2 waters are not preadapted to ocean acidification, co-authored by Dr. Peter von Dassow and candidate for Doctor of ecology Francisco Díaz, members of IMO and the Department of Ecology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
IMO invites undergraduate students enrolled in programs focusing on marine sciences and issues dealt with at IMO, as well as those studying other disciplines related to these subjects (such as chemistry, biochemistry, physics, microbiology, journalism, computing, engineering and social communication) to apply for undergraduate scholarships available. The study entitled “Cryptic Oxygen Cycling in Anoxic Marine Zones”, by the director of the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) Osvaldo Ulloa together with IMO doctoral student in Oceanography Montserrat Aldunate, was published in the prestigious journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).
