Millennium Institute of Oceanography Brings the Ocean Closer to Santiago

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

On December 8, the event “Science Goes into the Park”, organized by Par Explora of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) and aimed at the dissemination of science and technology, took place in Santiago with the active participation of the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO).

During the event, IMO sought to bring the world of oceanography closer to the general public, especially to young people, through an information stand on marine biodiversity and a number of fun activities allowing participants to see first-hand different species and microorganisms living in the eastern South Pacific off Chile. In this regard, Irlin Barrera, IMO graphic designer explained: “These collective fun activities are appealing to families, especially to little children, who are surprised by all the different aspects of science.”

The big attendance (more than 5000 people) confirms the need to continue to organize these kinds of events that encourage learning, the dissemination of science and the development of a scientific culture.
